These SoMa Spots Are Local Favorites

9 months ago by stephanie

It’s undeniable that the industrial neighborhood known as SoMa — which means South of Market Street — is a central hub for those who live and work in San Francisco. Tech start-ups, anyone? But don’t underestimate the area’s appeal for dining, drinking and dancing on a night out. See some of our tried-and-true favorites, below.

Marlowe is a top-qual brasserie on all fronts — it’s got a lovely ambiance and drool-worthy dishes with excellent presentation. A cozy corner spot with fun decor, Marlowe is definitely worth the visit if you’re in the area.

Bar Agricole

Bar Agricole is a trendy new American spot with a fabulous cocktail list and oyster happy hour. Yes, we said oyster happy hour! Prices are on the high side, but the interior is beautifully curated, with a mix of rustic and modern decor, so it’s an ideal place to see and be seen.

Charmaine’s Rooftop Bar & Lounge

Feel like living it up and being bougie with your friends tonight? Let us point you in the direction of Charmaine’s, which is arguably the coolest new rooftop bar in San Francisco. Located at the San Francisco Proper Hotel, this swanky little bar’s gorgeous decor meets halfway between our fave California cool and lavish European. Plus, it’s indoor and outdoor, which means you can order a beautiful craft cocktail at the bar and then sail outside to hang by the cozy, crackling fires while you enjoy an incredible view of the glittering city lights. Bottoms up!

This tiny dance venue gets absolutely packed! One of Bergerac’s major draws is that the music is good and the cocktails are STRONG. Be ready to shed all your foggy weather layers once you get inside though: With such a small space, it heats up quickly. And if you’re lucky enough to grab a couch, hold onto it for a minute; seating is fun and cozy, and definitely contributes to the warm ambiance inside.

Pro tip: Get you a couch and a Moscow Mule punch bowl. Even the punch bowls are served in famous Moscow Mule copper! Can you say aesthetic AF?

Right next door to Bergerac is its sister club, the more well known club known as Audio. Audio is another staple for dancing and bomb music during a night out in San Francisco, especially if you love deep house and electronic music. It’s got a fantastic sound system, a variety of talented DJs every weekend, and plenty of visual appeal, with endless mirrors creating a portal-like experience behind the DJ booth. Trippy.

The scene at Bloodhound resembles that of a hunting lodge, and with a name like that, it’s appropriate, no? This warm and inviting cocktail bar boasts signature cocktails, a fantastic back-lit bar (one of our favorite staples anywhere we drink), and hey, you can even bring your dog inside. What’s not to love?
