Morning Coffee: The Best Places to Get Your Caffeine Fix in LA

If you’re like us, you need your morning coffee. It’s not just something nice to have, its vital to becoming the functioning human you are, ready to go out and tackle the day. Luckily, Los Angeles is a hot spot for trendy, delicious and top quality coffee joints and if you’re visiting the area we can pretty much guarantee that you’ll be able to get your caffeine fix with ease.

In fact, LA has so many amazing coffee spots that it can be hard to pick just one when you’re deciding where to grab an espresso shot or your morning latte. We’ve visited Los Angeles our fair share of times and checked quite a few of these local hotspots to find the best of the best when it comes to coffee shops and trendy cafes.

1. Carrera Cafe

Carrera Cafe is a cute, bright and charming European style cafe located right in the heart of Los Angeles on Melrose Avenue. Not only can you grab a tasty cup of coffee here, but Carrera Cafe is also home to some of the most delicious salads and Italian subs in town.

They have some of the GREATEST latte art we have ever seen and as if that wasn’t Instagram-worthy enough for you, Carrera Cafe is also home to the infamous “Hello” mural where you can spot tons of locals and tourists alike posing for their own snaps on a daily basis. 2. Alfred Coffee and Kitchen

Chances are you’ve probably seen pictures of Alfred Coffee before. Between their iconic, “But First, Coffee” neon sign to their delicious drinks and baked goods, you certainly won’t be disappointed by a visit to Alfred Coffee and Kitchen.

Serving up Portland-based Stumptown coffee, you’ll come for the caffeine fix but you’ll certainly want to stay for the environment and awesome people-watching opportunities offered up by Alfred and its clientele of LA’s trendiest.

3. Dinosaur Coffee

Located in LA’s Silver Lake district, Dinosaur Coffee is one of the trendiest spots around to grab a quick cup of coffee. With a minimal and artfully designed interior, Dinosaur Coffee is a personal favorite of ours and features beans roasted from San Francisco’s Four Barrel Coffee Roasters.

As an added bonus, Dinosaur Coffee features free wi-fi offering the perfect opportunity to catch-up on social media or answer some emails if you work remotely! Dinosaur Coffee also has a fair amount of parking so if you’re exploring the city by a car or taking a day-trip, this spot is a great option while you’re on the go!

4. Go Get Em Tiger Coffee

Go Get Em Tiger Coffee started off as a a tiny pop-up in LA’s Virgil Village neighbourhood, but pretty soon word got out transforming Go Get Em Tiger into the incredible establishment it is today. Located on Larchmont Boulevard, this spot combines great coffee, delicious food and a sense of community to create an atmosphere that will have you feeling like a local in no time.

Having won awards from “Best New Coffee Bar” to “Best Coffeeshop in California”, Go Get Em Tiger is not a place you’ll want to miss on your next visit to Los Angeles.

5. Woodcat Coffee Bar

Located in LA’s Echo Park neighborhood, Woodcat Coffee Bar is a specialty coffee bar, open seven days a week and one of our personal favorite spots to grab a cup of coffee and start our day when we’re visiting Los Angeles.

With a welcoming and personal feel, Woodcat Coffee Bar is a great spot to relax and enjoy a cappuccino after a day of exploring Melrose Avenue or hiking in the Hollywood Hills. While its only been open since 2014, its quickly becoming one of the biggest coffee gems in Echo Park.

6. Rubies + Diamonds

Rubies + Diamonds is one of the coolest experimental coffee shops around and definitely a spot you’ll want to check out on your next visit to Los Angles. Using brewing technology like nitrogen infusions for its cold brew’s and teas, Rubies + Diamonds is truly revolutionizing the coffee scene in LA.

Hungry? They also offer a selection of five sandwiches and a range of pastries that will certainly hit the spot. Our personal favorite is the kimchi spam musubi croissant!

7. Verve Coffee Roasters

While Verve Coffee Roasters originated in Santa Cruz, there are now a ton of locations open all over (even Tokyo!) and that most definitely includes Los Angeles as well.

The concept of “street level” interaction defines everything they do at Verve Coffee Roasters, and inspired by the European street level cafes where locals would come to chat, catch-up and congregate in the mornings, Verve aspires to create a sense of community and bring personalization to every cup of coffee they serve. With a few different locations in the LA area, we definitely recommend checking them out on your next visit!

8. Blackwood Coffee Bar

Blackwood is an independent LA coffee bar that incorporates the highest quality ingredients into everything that they do. Situated in a space-filled with bright and vibrant colors, Blackwood Coffee Bar is the energizing space you need to start off your day in LA.

Not feeling a coffee? Try their hot chocolate with sea salt, its on our favorites and pairs great with their classic vanilla buckwheat waffles. Can you say yum??

9. The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker

Not only does The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker have one of the greatest names we’ve ever heard for a coffee shop, but their menu of food and drinks impress just as much, if not more, than their moniker.

Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker is a great spot to check out no matter what time of day you’re looking to visit. They even have a great wine list if you’re feeling like something a little more powerful than coffee at the end of a day exploring and touring around LA.

10. Giorgi Porgi

Last but not least, Giorgi Porgi is another great option in Los Angeles to grab a caffeine fix, not to mention some great food too if you’re feeling hungry. Dedicated to quality, the staff at Giorgi Porgi pride themselves on serving their clients with only the best organic coffee and tea, working with local dairy farmers and bakeries to use the freshest ingredients around.

They’ve got a wide range of sweet and savoury food options making them a great spot to check out if you’re looking for morning coffee, lunch or an afternoon snack! Their blueberry balsamic bourbon smoked cinnamon toast is our personal favorite option on the menu.
